Prof. Eriabu Lugujjo

Academic Brief

He obtained a first-class BSc. degree in Mathematics and Physics from the University of East Africa, Makerere University Uganda (1969).

He undertook his graduate studies leading to MSc and PhD (1974) degrees in Electrical Engineering at California Institute of Technology (CalTech), USA.

He pursued his postdoctoral research (1974) at Bell Labs, New Jersey (USA) specializing in Meta-semiconductor systems using ion channeling techniques.

Background

His academic and research career has spanned over forty-eight (48) years, 38 of which he dedicated his service to Makerere University, Uganda.

In 1971, he was a founder researcher in the area of ion implantation, electron hole droplets, silicates, solid epitaxy, backscattering and channeling all of which have led to the advances in semiconductor devices technology.

Prof. Lugujjo has had a long leadership track record serving in various leadership positions as Vice Chancellor (10 1/2 years) Ndejje University, Dean (10 years) and Head of Department (15 years) at Makerere University respectively.

Expertise
In his leadership roles, he has played catalytic functions including negotiating for funds from UNDP/UNESCO to support the rehabilitation and reconstruction of Faculty of Technology at Makerere University and advancement of Information Technology at Makerere University through the Directorate of Information Technology (DICTs). He also championed the starting of graduate training that had hitherto been non-existent at the Faculty of Technology at Makerere University.
